Treatment with the nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist finerenone has proven kidney and cardiovascular benefits in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes. Data from the FIND-CKD trial presented at the 63rd European Renal Association Congress in Glasgow expanded those findings, as they demonstrate that this drug is also protective in people with CKD but without diabetes.

Mean serum potassium levels increased modestly in the treatment group (0.12 mmol/l difference between groups) and although hyperkalaemia events were reported (in 17% of treated patients and in 13.3% of those in the placebo group), finerenone was overall safe and well tolerated.
