Additionally, studies by Hermann et al and Larsen et al demonstrated that training to or past failure was beneficial for hypertrophy. Ultimately, the optimal approach depends on individual factors and recovery capabilities. A combination of high volume and low intensity may be suitable for those with sufficient time and resources, while shorter, high-intensity training sessions may be more effective for those with limited time. For maximal gains, incorporating both approaches can lead to better outcomes. Nevertheless, it is essential to track performance and adjust training accordingly to avoid injury or burnout. In practice, recovery is rarely the bottleneck to muscle growth, but rather maximizing stimulus is key.
