The association between MTNR1B genotype and impaired glucose control has been well-documented, with individuals carrying the risk allele (G) of rs10830963 exhibiting increased fasting glucose levels and type 2 diabetes. A key factor influencing glucose response is the timing of meals, particularly late evening eating when endogenous melatonin levels are elevated. This study aimed to explore the impact of MTNR1B genotype on postprandial glucose response to breakfast in a real-world setting. Participants consumed either a standard carbohydrate-rich or protein-enriched porridge breakfast following an overnight fast, with post-prandial glucose levels recorded using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). The study was repeated one week later with the alternate breakfast type.
