The clip also accuses the other creator of stealing content without permission. While the ethical point about content use is separate, the scientific claims deserve a closer look.

What the clip claims

The video asserts that peptides linked to muscle growth have a direct connection to cancer, insulin resistance (leading to type 2 diabetes), and can disrupt natural hormone production. It also states that most negative effects appear only long-term and are often irreversible. These are strong claims that go beyond what current research supports.

What research actually covers

Peptides like growth hormone releasing peptides (GHRPs) and growth hormone secretagogues (e.g., ipamorelin, CJC-1295) are studied for their ability to stimulate endogenous growth hormone release. In controlled research settings, they are investigated for conditions like frailty, growth hormone deficiency, and muscle wasting. Some studies show modest increases in lean body mass and improvements in body composition, but these are typically short-term and in specific populations, not healthy young athletes.

Long-term safety data in healthy individuals are lacking. Most known risks come from supraphysiological growth hormone use, not from secretagogues at research doses. For example, acromegaly (a condition of excess growth hormone) is associated with insulin resistance and increased cancer risk, but that is a chronic disease state, not a direct model for peptide use. The leap from “growth hormone excess in disease” to “peptides cause cancer” is not supported by direct evidence.

Limits of the evidence

There are no large, long-term studies on bodybuilders using peptides. Anecdotal reports and small studies cannot establish causation for cancer or diabetes. The clip’s claim that “most negative effects appear long-term” is speculative, as we simply do not have the data. Also, the peptide landscape is broad—some peptides are not even related to growth hormone, and lumping them together is misleading.
