Physical environment as a catalyst for healthy aging: servicescape, motivation, and well-being in older adult park golf

Active leisure activities like park golf are crucial for older adults' successful aging. Grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) paradigm and Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study investigated the struct

A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed. Data from 264 older adult park golf participants in South Korea were analyzed using structural equation modeling.

The physical servicescape (stimulus) positively impacted both perceived image and facility satisfaction (organism), which subsequently enhanced participation motivation (response).

The structural model showed an acceptable fit (χ2/df = 1.831, TLI = .904, CFI = .919, RMSEA = .092, SRMR = .074).

Servicescape significantly predicted both image (β = .838, p < .001) and satisfaction (β = .745, p < .001) in the model, while motivation (β = .623, p < .001) was indirectly predicted by servicescape.

The results suggest that a positive physical servicescape is crucial for promoting perceived image and satisfaction, as well as motivation, among older adults engaging in park golf.

The study's findings highlight the importance of considering the physical environment in promoting healthy aging and overall well-being among older adults.

Limitations of this study include the cross-sectional design, which precludes causal inferences, and the reliance on self-reported measures of servicescape and satisfaction.

Further research is needed to replicate these findings and explore the mechanisms by which a positive physical servicescape influences motivation and well-being among older adults.

In conclusion, this study contributes to the understanding of the structural relationships between perceived servicescape, facility image, satisfaction, motivation, and subjective well-being in the context of older adult park golf.

A better understanding of the role of the physical environment in promoting healthy aging and overall well-being among older adults is essential for the development of evidence-based interventions and policies.
