Reports of injuries were made by customers and salon staff, with bruising on the hand being reported. The recall was initiated due to a potential packaging issue in which the product could leak from the package under pressure, creating a risk of explosion. Affected products were distributed to Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington. Customers may return the product to their place of purchase for a full refund. The affected lots have batch codes listed on the back side of the bottle, including 2901X4577N, 2901X4578N, 290265P91O, 290665Q30O, 290855N31O, and others. The recall was initiated after one customer complaint and two salon reports were made. Henkel has stated that their consumer brands focus on laundry, hygiene, and hair care. Schwarzkopf is owned by Henkel, which also owns other well-known brands such as Dial soaps and All laundry detergent. The company has taken steps to rectify the issue and ensure customer safety.
