Recall on 10 Million Lbs. of Peaches Gets Important FDA Update

If peaches are one of your favorite parts of summer, even in a dessert you’re likely getting fruit-filled nutrition. The Cleveland Clinic says peaches are a source of vitamins A and C, plus potassium, as well as two grams of fiber and even a gram of protein.

But this weekend, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) added an update to an earlier recall whose details were previously a little fuzzy. Eleven varieties of peaches were pulled from market starting in late October 2025 when Moonlight Packaging Corporation, a farm in Fresno County, CA—a high-production agricultural region—discovered what the FDA reported as “Potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.”

What’s new

As of July 31, the FDA reports the recall as “terminated,” likely meaning that all tasks related to the event have been satisfactorily addressed.

Previously, the FDA assigned the recall as a Class I—their highest risk warning, indicating “reasonable probability” that exposure to the fruit would “cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

Impact of the recall

A November 9 FDA update added, “This recall is being conducted because Listeria monocytogenes was identified in the packing facility environment.” Listeria are a type of foodborne microbe that science shows can proliferate even in colder temperatures.

The November FDA announcement said the recalled yellow, white, and “peppermint” white peaches labeled under Moonlight and Kroger brands were sold as individual pieces of fruit or in multi-packs that comprised 33 recalled lots, packed under varying UPC and PLU numbers (stickered on individual peaches) for different retailers. We previously listed accounts that have carried Moonlight peaches as Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Costco, Target, Sprouts, Food Lion, Wegmans, and more.

Moonlight Packaging Company appears to be a major peach supplier. The recalled peaches were shipped to Canada, Mexico, and the following 39 U.S. states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebrasks, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
