The results showed a significant decrease in injury risk among parents who used a pram, with 19% reporting injuries compared to 30% of those who did not use a pram. This reduction was observed across various types of injuries, including ankle pain, calf muscle injury, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendinitis. The study suggests that the reduced force produced with each foot strike when pushing a child may be responsible for this decrease in injury risk. Additionally, the researchers found that parents who ran with their children tended to have shorter strides and slower speeds, as well as greater hip flexion and forward pelvic tilt. These changes in running style may also contribute to the reduced injury risk. While the study provides promising results, it is essential to note that more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between pram use and injury risk.
