Initiation of Statin Therapy for Diabetes
Taking a statin medication is an effective, safe, and low-cost way to lower cholesterol and reduce risk of cardiovascular events.
Despite clinicians recommending statin therapy for patients with diabetes, nearly one-fifth of them delay treatment. In a new study, researchers found that patients who started statin therapy promptly reduced the rate of heart attack and stroke by one third compared to those who delayed treatment.
