Walmart Recalls Marketside-Brand Product in 29 States

Walmart shared a recall update Thursday after the Food and Drug Administration announced the withdrawal from market of a Marketside house-brand product that had been distributed “exclusively to select Walmart stores” in the following states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

The announcement states that the corporation is pulling 3,240 units of its Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kit in 14-ounce (397 grams) wrapped-tray packaging, licensed by Maryland manufacturer Kettle Cuisine LLC.

Marketside is Walmart’s budget label for ready-to-eat, heat-and-eat, and deli-style items.

Why Walmart is recalling this Marketside item

The recall is being executed following routine testing “because the product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

The notice states no illnesses had been reported as of publication of the notice.

Identifying details for the recalled bisque are noted as UPC 194346474004, with 8/22/2026 expiration.

The notice states: “Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, infection with Listeria monocytogenes can also cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.”

What to do if you purchased this Walmart Marketside product

The FDA notice lists steps for consumers who purchased the item—from FDA.gov:

• Do not eat, serve, sell, or distribute the recalled product.
• Dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
• Do not rely on smell or appearance to determine whether the product is safe.
• Wash hands after handling the product. Clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, containers, utensils, countertops, and other surfaces that may have encounter the product.
• Consumers who have eaten the recalled product and develop symptoms of listeriosis should contact a healthcare provider. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. More serious symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions. Pregnant people should contact a healthcare provider promptly if they experience fever or other symptoms after possible exposure.
